Hmmmm, would that be a "geared turbofan"? Supposedly, Pratt has "invented" the geared turbofan that will "usher in an unprecedented era of turbofan fuel efficiency". Looks like Honeywell beat them to it by 30 years.

the GE90 uses a gear driven system as well. i guess more than one company uses gear driven hub systems.
