This APU is also a very reliable unit, it can start at altitudes of 20,000-40,000fl. We check this in flight after shutting the airplane down to no power. We check that the RAT and APU function as engineered. When the 777 was new we had some air flow troubles. When the air supplying the a/c packs or engines was shut down the back flow of air would burp the apu, this was fixed by adding a different out flow valve instead of a butterfly type a plunger type is used. the plunger allows for a softer release of air pressure and it is also ducted into the turbine exhaust path to lessen the sound output for the EPA requirements.
