Bill,

Dye colouring for home heating use, is a local issue, and varies from Province to Province, State to State. It's so when the the DOT occasionally sets up a roadblock, they can identify "illegal" fuel being used in transportation applications. Technically, P50 is legal to use in a "stationary engine". Up here in rural Canada, the DOT checks fuel use regularily, to make sure the tax breaks are going where they are supposed to. Sometimes the dye is put in, right at the pumper truck. Occassionally, I've been asked, "do you want the dye put in", when obviously, he is pumping into a heating oil tank. "No thanks" is the usual reply.
So, the colour of your home heating fuel is regional, and can be any colour, so long as different than local motor fuel. I've seen green, purple, and red.

Does anybody know the air requirements for the J79 start turbine? How about starting the J85-5 with the turbine impingement start?

I think it's about ~90 ppm at 40 PSIA for the J85? The J79 need less, I think, to get 15%. Here's my problem. I have a J85-5 going to one project and I have a some projects that will use J79's with the turbine starter. I have one MA1. I also have an Ingersoll Rand industrial compressor that puts out 165 CFM (13 PPM) at 100 psi. I'm thinking that I can make a home-made ejector pump to increase it's flow while reducing the industrial compressor's pressure to get near the 40 psia and 90 PPM. The MA1 will go with the J85 with the "air hungrier" starting requirement. Of course I can buy another start cart.

Any thoughts?

I have the air consumption charts for the J79/LM1500 air turbine starters at work, I'll dig them up tomorrow and post. (If I remember.)
Not sure about J85 impingement start though. Generally impingement uses a lot more air than a true starter unit, to give the same RPM on the main engine. Higher pressure too.
I'll see what I can dig up.

Our J79 on the NAE starts with 28-30psig for our air starter it seems to me that our F4D's used the same pressure for the J79-15 during start up.
Check out American Valley Aviation http://www.avamro.net/ these guys rebuild the M1A's and -60 start carts they may have some for lease as an alternative to purchasing units.

We use -90 & -90F GTC's in our Convairs, quite possibly the most reliable thing on these aircraft.
They quite happily start the 501's all day every day, ours dont get an easy time operating in alot of hot salty air in the pacific.
Got one on the wing at the moment thats been there since 2005, easily done 4000 starts in that time. Rock solid.
